Katie is a newly qualified physiotherapist. She trained overseas, in Holland, and is currently awaiting her registration with the HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) before she can begin working under the protected title of Physiotherapist. We have been informed that this could take up to 6 months, so in the meantime Katie will be working under the title of MSK (Musculoskeletal) Therapist. This does not affect her care of you as a patient, just the title under which she delivers that care.

I’ve been a Chiropractor for over 20 years; I graduated in 2002 from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic in Bournemouth. Coming from a medical family, I suppose I was destined to work in the medical field. I have always been fascinated by the complexities of the human body, how it works, how it falters, and how it can be repaired. I looked at studying either Medicine, Osteopathy, Physiotherapy or Chiropractic. Chiropractic interested me the most. So, after 5 years of study, I was a fully qualified Chiropractor. Since graduation in 2002 I have worked in many different types of Clinical setting, ranging from single practitioner satellite clinics up to large multi-disciplinary ones. I also had the experience of applying Chiropractic treatment in an industrial setting by working at HUM (Honda UK Manufacturing) in Swindon. Throughout these varied clinical settings, I have always stuck to my core principles of providing evidence-based treatment to achieve the restoration of function and resolution of symptoms. I have trained in many different techniques, including Dry Needling (medical acupuncture), KT taping and extremity adjusting to name just a few. I use this training and experience to tailor the treatment plan to the patient and the injury that they present with. After all, we are all different, and what works with one may not work with another. Outside of work I love spending time with my partner Claire and our two young daughters, Esme and Zoë. I follow Gloucester Rugby and enjoy various motor sports

I graduated from the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic (USW) with a distinction in my Masters degree of Chiropractic. I was also delighted to be awarded the best research project, having investigated the management of episodes of low back pain in adults. I am registered with the General Chiropractic Council and am a member of the British Chiropractic Association and the Royal College of Chiropractors. I pride myself on being guided by the most up to date evidence and NICE clinical guidelines, in order to provide personalised care tailored to every individual. I enjoy treating a varied caseload of injuries, aches and pains. I have special interests in neck and back pain, BPPV/dizziness and pregnancy care. Most recently, I have trained with APPI to become a Pilates instructor, something I am very excited about and believe will hugely complement my clinical work. What is chiropractic? What can a chiropractor treat? Chiropractic is a regulated healthcare profession. Chiropractors are trained to diagnose, treat, manage and prevent disorders of the musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, and muscles), as well as the effects these disorders can have on the nervous system and general health. When chiropractors assess patients, we take physical, emotional and social wellbeing into account. Chiropractors are typically known for treating patients suffering with neck pain, back pain and/or sciatica, but are qualified to assess and treat any musculoskeletal injury, disorder or problem including those of your shoulder, hip, knee, or ankle joints. What does a typical appointment involve? The initial consultation starts with a conversation during which I take a thorough case history, that is followed by a physical exam. Then we go through a verbal report of findings where we discuss the working diagnosis, treatment options, and a home exercise plan tailor-made for you. If appropriate, I perform hands-on treatment using a variety of techniques such as soft tissue work, spinal manipulative therapy, assisted stretching, joint mobilisations, dry needling and/or k-taping. I will also give you advice on self management techniques, discuss whether maintenance care may benefit you and endeavour to answer any questions you may have. Follow-up appointments and maintenance care consists of further hands-on treatment, rehab prescription and advice. About me, outside of the clinic… Mostly you will find me spending time socialising with my friends and family, or trying any kind of sport, although my main passion is netball. Otherwise, you can find me reading a book or doing a sudoku with a cup of tea and some homemade shortbread! When I have the time, I also love exploring new places and having fun trying/failing at new arts and crafts projects

I have a varied background with my first career as a Registered Veterinary Nurse for 20 years. After having my two daughters, I embarked on coaching gymnastics, before moving on to teaching Acrobatics Arts to dancers in a local dance school. I have always been active, with my latest venture into ultra running alongside obstacle racing! Through my own experiences and those of the children I coached, I developed a keen interest in how to approach pain and injury, leading me to a complete career change in 2016 as a Clinical Sports & Remedial Massage Therapist. This title later changed to Soft Tissue Therapy to better describe what we do. Whilst I have broad interests in the variety of clients I see, I have also developed a keen interest in treating children and adolescents with growth and activity related pain and injury. Completing a course with the well-renowned Angela Jackson and providing treatments with the dance school I used to work in. Compounded by my own experience, I also run a monthly menopause cafe and have a special interest in treating women and helping them navigate through the aches and pains associated with declining hormones. I have also completed the same training module aimed at healthcare professionals to enable better signposting around peri/post menopause. My treatments and advice are constantly evolving to stay up to date with the latest evidence and give the very best to my clients.

I hold a level 2 in gym instructing and am now working towards a level 4 in strength and conditioning. I have also completed the certificate in mental health first aid. About me…

Growing up I tried football, cricket, athletics, swimming, martial arts, and tennis, eventually settling on rugby as my priority sport. The fitness training and strength work in the gym for rugby sparked my interest in researching and experimenting with whatever techniques and exercises I could find in forums and articles online.

A lot of injuries saw me in the physio room almost as much as on the pitch although at this point I still had aspirations of working as a sports scientist either conducting research or working alongside professional teams. I studied Sports & Exercise Science at the University of South Wales which gave me a great foundation in exercise physiology, anatomy, sports psychology, biomechanics, and strength & conditioning.

On completion of my BSc, the reality of the competition for very limited vacancies in professional sport saw me work in a variety of different roles before packing my bags for a year of travel and rugby in New Zealand and 2 years of snowboarding in Canada. A chance conversation towards my last few weeks in Canada with a physiotherapist on holiday from the UK made me investigate physio as a career pathway that matched my skills and interests.

Fast forward 4 years, I graduated from the University of Bradford with a Masters in Physiotherapy, Sport & Exercise Medicine and complemented this with a Level 4 Certificate in Strength & Conditioning and a Diploma in Dry Needling/Medical Acupuncture.

I have worked with a wide variety of populations in settings ranging from professional rugby players at Bradford Bulls to elderly patients on acute medical and neurological wards in the NHS. Joining Courtyard Clinic has given me the opportunity to focus on MSK physiotherapy and my particular interests of sports injury rehab, conservative management of osteoarthritis, and promoting strength training for all.
